Late last Sunday afternoon at Secret Garden Party, I was lucky enough to be among the many sitting in The Living Room tent when wonderful singer-songwriter Ethan Ash graced its stage. The charismatic and impressive young man has an unexpectedly big voice, and won the audience over from the offset, passing Jelly Babies around the crowd in one of the most down to earth audience-artist exchanges I’ve had the pleasure of witnessing.
Ethan travelled through a fantastic set of quirky and catchy acoustic numbers that are talent-filled, humble and interesting. Highlights …

I am really enjoying the resurgence of rough under-production values that is popping up all over the place in response the pop dullness that fills the airwaves, and Lil Daggers (MySpace) have that rough garage home recording sound down.
I first featured them on our Lost Mixtape vol.2 a couple of months ago, but after hearing a demo few tracks they are putting together for a full length, I thought now would be a good time to share a few more growling, Doors-esque rock and roll from their previous couple of vinyl …
Yuck landed in my inbox associated with Modest Mouse who they’ll be supporting at The Troxy in London on September 8th. They’ll also be doing dates with the band in Newcastle and Liverpool – you’ll find a full list of their upcoming tour dates at the bottom of this post.
Their beautiful alt-rock sounds are reminiscient of a lot of great American alt-rock bands such as Goo Goo Dolls and Modest Mouse themselves, and the fantastic boy-girl vocals remind me of The Joy Formidable in places. Really gorgeous stuff. Everything about …
