If you looked at that title and your reaction was “What the fuck is Aberfeldy?”, your first thoughts about a very lovely new band of that name were exactly the same as mine. In fact, Aberfeldy is a Scottish burgh, and they produce some mighty fine Scotch. Don’t you love Google? Now that we’ve all recovered and are well-informed, I’ll digress.
In a rare turn of events, Aberfeldy are a band that grabbed me and forced me to fall in love with them after one lazy and effortless listen to their …
I love it when a genuinely lovely new band lands in your inbox, and I love it even more when the person emailing is polite, personal and well-informed. Bern & the Brights made a wonderful first impression on me, and it was after listening to their lovely violin-infused alternative-pop tunes a good few times that I realised regretfully that I wouldn’t be able to see the US-based band live in the UK quite yet.
Bern & the Brights have gloriously catchy tunes with solid musical integrity still attached. ‘Sleepless Aristotle’ is …
Lulu and the Lampshades are phenomenally talented, astoundingly unique and loads of fun. I first heard of them through my friend Olly’s label Voga Parochia who put out the band’s debut single ‘Feet To The Sky’ last year, and then had the pleasure of seeing them live at the launch of Communion Bristol in March.
Armed with a myriad of weird and wonderful instruments, these talented musicians make allsorts of interesting sounds. ‘Feet To The Sky’ is a definite highlight and shows you their distinctive talents, but perhaps the best introduction …
Cocos Lovers are absolutely amazing. I randomly met bass player Bill at the lovely Norwich Playhouse Bar last year, and he wrote down the name of his band for me. I fell in love with the band via their recordings, and seeing them live for first time inside the Small World tent at Secret Garden Party was a perfect introduction to their zesty live presence.
Just ahead of two appearances at this year’s Cambridge Folk Festival, Cocos Lovers played a lengthy set of beautiful world-infused folk to a full Secret Garden …
The Oxford based Spring Offensive have started to make waves over the last year or so with their sparse recorded sound and introverted almost claustrophobic sound – even being Huw Stephen’s “Pick of the week” on BBC Radio1 and for good reason.
I’ll admit it took me a while to get into them after Pop Noodle sent over some material a few months back, but I think that probably had more to do with my state of mind at the time. They have new 13 minute (brave I know!) single coming …
I feel it is about time to update all of you faithful TBW readers, who don’t already follow us on Twitter or Facebook, all the exciting new things that have happened here over the last month or so. I have been meaning to write this for a while, but late is better than never.
Firstly, last month we joined the Strangers in Stereo (twitter) music blog collective – which is a group of 25 of the best music from around the globe joining forces both online (the SiS website which highlights …
