Justice

Two new songs tonight from the french duo so found of religious imagery, Justice (facebook) – Newlands and Canon.

Newlands is all glam rock, with what sounds like a sample of AC/DC’s For Those About To Rock – still that disco groove, but with a guitar solo and 80s vocal – it does mean the leatherclad boys have strayed away from the electro-distortion upon which they made their name.

Justice – Newlands

Canon has that welcome growl of distortion and thumping beat, whilst still continuing on Justice’s apparent journey of discovery of 1980s cymbal clashes rock climaxes.

Justice – Audio, Video, Disco drops on 24th October on Ed Banger Records.

Romero

Hailing from Paris, France – Romero (twitter) is born from the ashes of Lyre Le Temps, but this time with a focus on disco. It’s electro-pop but always played out on top of a disco groove and just make me want to dance.

He’s been getting a lot of love over on SoundCloud for a couple of months as people embrace that French disco feel. His remixes of the big boys of French electro like Justice and Daft Punk take a welcome step away from what you might expect – but it is on his own material that he is most impressive. Uninhibited to make use of 70s/80s disco samples, its made for dropping to a dancefloor of happy revellers.

Fanfarlo

I fell in love with Fanfarlo (facebook/twitter) last year when I was lucky enough to catch them live – it’s difficult not to become utterly absorbed in their music. Their mixture of strings alongside their loose indie/folk song structures are at times breathtaking.

They’ve got a new album pencilled in for a release early next year, with Deconstruction being the first single from it being released on 17th October. As a bit of teaser, though, they are giving away Replicate – an urgent and claustrophobic track, slowly building the tension until the song finally spreads its wings and becomes something beautiful.

Replicate has had the remix duties provided by Teletextile who adds an extra depth and a full soundscape; Senz who lays down an almost funk groove behind the strings and some beeps and squeaks on top to take it in a very different direction indeed.
