Chris Wood is remarkable. There comes a character in every genre catalogue of music who truly is the whole package; musically talented, down to earth, interesting to speak to, socially aware, and ultimately, a pioneer to their section of their craft. In folk music, Chris Wood is your man. I had the pleasure of catching up with Chris last month before his show at Norwich Arts Centre…
His latest project – ‘Handmade Life’ – is an exceptional exploration of the issues associated with modern life, and the inspiration behind it shows …
So its the end of the year and the end of the decade and that means that you can’t move but for the lists of the best and worst of times. Saam from Faded Glamour had done the honourable thing and managed to convince a bunch of British bloggers (myself included) to share their favourite British albums of the last ten year, and then condensed our ramblings into a couple of lists.
First of all we’ve got the top 10 albums of the decade with all our thoughts compiled together
Then we’ve …
One of the first things I ever did here on TBW was to bring together all the Hot Chip remixes I could find into album length compilations and my love of the band hasn’t faded. Their next single “One Life Stand” is the first to be taken from their forthcoming album and is a bit more of their signature electro/funk/danceable wonders so get ready for 2010 being a massive year for them.
Meursault‘s Nothing Broke was one of my favourite EPs of this year, and the delightfully consistent Song, by Toad Records have just released a couple of 7″ singles on transparent vinyl to close out the year. Oh yes they look very pretty indeed, but it’s the music that you’re reading this for and Meursault do not disappoint.
The singles each contain a song from their December 2008 album Pissing on Bonfires/Kissing With Tongues as well as a full version of William Henry Miller Pt.1 and 2 respectively, re-recorded with new band …
Everybody’s favourite mischevious sea dweller is doing something extra special to celebrate the Yuletide season this month, with the launch of his debut single ‘A Call To Arms For Hippies’, released through Kind Canyon Records on Monday.
The track, which features contributions from a myriad of notable London nu-folk residents, is being released as a charity single in aid of MAP – Medical Aid for Palestinians.
You might remember that we featured Olly back here and here when his amusing antics first caught our eye. With the release of this debut single …
We’ve made no secret of our love for Crystal Fighters and their basque-influenced electro delights here at Walrus Towers, but they have outdone themselves with their latest “I Love London”. Kitsune (MySpace) decided to put this on their Kitsune Maison 8 compilation (which incidentally I think is their best in a little while), but have now released it as a single and wow what a single it is – and yes I was unbelievably upset I couldn’t go to the launch party (stupid degree pfft!).
This was released a week or …
