The Shimmer – Crash

The Shimmer have made a big splash over the past couple of months with more and more people loving their driving electro pop, and they have not been sitting on their hands whilst getting all this praise. They’ve been writing new material for their upcoming first live show and debut single on the increasingly influential Hit Club shortly.
And yes we have another mp3 to share, this one a little heavier electro-pop, but still just as fucking fantastic. I for one cannot wait until they show us their abilities on a …

Bands to watch – Django Django

Django Django may have missed out on getting the SXSW love they much deserve after US immigration refused them visas, but that isn’t going to stop me covering them here. I first noticed them when Illegal Tender picked them up in early 2009 and I really should have written about them then but I think their latest single WOR is their best yet and they deserve a proper mention.
They might be based out of Dalston now but they are quite the British/Irish collective hailing in parts from Edinburgh, Fife, Derry …

Peggy Sue – Fossils And Other Phantoms

We’ve been raving about Peggy Sue (MySpace | Facebook) for the last year here on TBW as they have been wowing people across the country with their live shows and next month they follow this up with the release of their debut album “Fossils And Other Phantoms” on Wichita.
Whilst Mumford & Sons and Fanfarlo have found great success over the past year with their grand multi-instrumental soundscapes and crescendos, Peggy Sue offer a more stripped down and more elemental approach to folk. I can hear the evolution of that disparate …

Save BBC 6 Music – free gig to show support

I’ve tried to keep my feelings of a political slant off TBW recently no matter how much actions the music industry and Google in the continuing #musicblogocide2k10 or the BBC’s plans to close 6 Music annoy me, but with a free gig being offered for everyone to show their support for 6 Music now might be a good time to start…
6 Music is, in my mind at least, exactly what this so called digital revolution with more space for radio stations was supposed to be for. They have taken the …

Planet Earth launch new single!

The musically delicious Planet Earth launch their brand new single ‘What More’ / ‘Falling Into Love’ via Young & Lost Club next month, and I can’t wait.
I first encountered these talented chaps supporting Noah And The Whale at a sellout Norwich gig back in autumn 2008, then again at Owl Parliament in 2009.
Their chilled out alt-folk tunes are the perfect soundtrack for spring antics in the sun, and I’m very much hoping this new single will be followed by a collection of live dates in the leadup to the summer.
Pre-order …

Bands to watch – Milk

Pigeon-holing bands is getting harder and bands like Milk are not making that job any easier. I’ve seen them described as post rock and noise rock but I’m not sure that covers it it all or even exactly what they are at this stage.
What I do know is that Milk construct abstract walls of sound into crescendos, but what sets them apart is the voice of Claire Robbin that transcends and glows above the noise. Somehow the noise doesnt distract, but instead assaults your senses and opens you up to …
