There is a definite lo-fi noise-pop theme running through what is coming out of Brattwell Recordings at the moment, and with groups like Novella (SoundCloud) coming through the ranks that can only be a good thing. The all-girl trio engulf their attitude behind a wall of fuzz, distorting the whole thin up to a growling crescendo.

They’ve got their debut 7″ single The Things You Do coming out August 15th on Dirty Bingo Records, and are playing the No Being Weird night at The Stag’s Head, Dalston tomorrow night.

Polly and the Billets Doux to play Apocalypstick night at The Hawley Arms

Polly and the Billets Doux, described by The Sunday Times as “a harmony blend of country, jazz, blues, folk and gospel”, have revealed details of an intimate London show taking place on August 4th.

Performing as part of acclaimed charity night Apocalypstick, the band will play at Camden venue The Hawley Arms in aid of the Strummerville charity. The show is free entry with charity donations welcome.

Polly and the boys will showcase tracks from their forthcoming sophomore album which is set for release next year.

We Were Promised Jetpacks

My love of We Were Promised Jetpacks (Facebook/Twitter) has been rather well stated on here, but here we’ve got the first track their sophmore release In the Pit of the Stomach. I may have been on holiday when news of this dropped, but with a song like this I still had to write it up.

Act On Impulse see the band keep their signature thumping builds and crescendos, all beneath the fragile Scottish-accent of Adam Thompson. They recorded the whole album at Sigur Ros’ Sundlaugin Studios in the frozen plains of Iceland and that bleak setting appears to have only strengthened their sounds of brutal desperation.

We Were Promised Jetpacks – In the Pit of the Stomach is due to be released on Fat Cat Records on 3rd October.
