After being widely held as the highlight of this year’s Field Day Festival, Clock Opera (Facebook/Twitter) are releasing their next single Lesson No. 7 in six weeks. The song is structured in layers that only Clock Opera know how, with a frantic breathless pace that builds and builds into shaking crescendo – all the while with Guy Connelly’s wrapping the song in emotive desperation.
My whole soul is racing.
Clock Opera – Lesson Number 7 is released on Moshi Moshi on 7th October
Two of the world’s most popular bluegrass/Americana touring acts will come together on August 25th for a super-special show at Bush Hall – and we can’t wait.
Hailing from Portland, Oregon, Water Tower Bucket Boys formed busking on the streets of their hometown. The boys have come a long way since then, touring the world and becoming festival favourites. UK fans include BBC Radio 2, BBC 6 Music, Uncut, Q Magazine and Songlines. Phew!
The Coal Porters are fronted by a chap called Sid Griffin. He penned the ‘hit single’ ‘Looking for Lewis and Clark’ by Long Ryders back in the 1980s. Combining elements of Americana, country and bluegrass, the band play a genre called ‘alt-bluegrass’, and they’re largely considered to be at the forefront of the UK’s bluegrass scene.
Finally, support comes from Polly and the Billets Doux who are coming to the end of a fast-paced festival season that included Cambridge Folk Festival, Secret Garden Party, Larmer Tree and Wood Festival. This is their first full London show in some time, and I can imagine will be very aesthetically pleasing in the beautiful Bush Hall.
Following up the riotous and grunge-fuelled debut EP Hot New Trash, FOE (Facebook/Twitter) is back with single Deep Water Heart Breaker. Its more of the attitude and swagger that we expect Hannah Clark, with the distortion on high.
She’s also got CREEP on remix duties, who were a highlight at last weekend’s Field Day Festival – and who have stripped back the distortion and noise, adding instead stabs of strings, and classical melodies. It keeps the menace of the original, but rather than drive and bravado, you’ve got introspection, a full 360.
The launch party for this is TONIGHT, and if it is anything like her EP launch a few months ago then it is going to be one hell of a party. She’s being supported by Brown Brogues, Wildflower, Hi, Honey DJs, Club Mammoth DJs, and Stella Mortos DJs. Get yourself along to the Old Blue Last [invite].
