Beau and the Arrows

We have been watching Beau and the Arrows (Facebook/Twitter) closely over the last few months after being transfixed with their beautiful and desperate debut Fix, and thumping 0.7.9.3.

And now my favourite of the band’s live repertoire, Levy, is getting a proper release. It seamlessly blends the post-punk elements of their previous releases, with the uplifting promise of a pop record. A song penned to reflect the harsh realities facing the British youth today as their fragile world is left in the smouldering ashes of the excesses of previous generations, Levy stands for the hope of this increasingly lost generation, a desire to be pulled from their disaffection – “Oh, you best pick me up”. Indeed.

Let's Buy Happiness

I’ve been more than a little bit infatuated with Let’s Buy Happiness (Facebook/Twitter) since I first caught them live last year, but the band have recently been back in the studio today we’ve got the first fruits of that labour.

Dirty Lakes keeps the focus on Sarah Hall’s glistening vocals, whilst the rest of the song charms the listener as it builds, lifts, and soothes the soul. An indie-pop gem that reminds you of those days of joy, those days of summer when without a acre in the world you will embrace the day, dive head first into a dirty lake and “get soaked right up”.
