Francis Neve - Dance Around The Fire

As winter begins to set in, it is imperative that there should be a few songs springing up around this time of year to offset the chill in the air. Well, don’t worry about that, because Francis Neve (facebook/twitter) has got it covered pretty well.

Dance Around The Fire is the kind of song that’ll take you back a few months and make you reminisce about the eventful summer that’s passed – clattering drums, handclaps and a sparkling melody combine to produce something that’s unashamedly euphoric. It’s be the lead track from an EP of the same name that’s out on December 5th, backed with a new song – the synth-and-vocoder-laden delight that is I Lie and two remixes of a song from last year’s The Second Time We First Met called Brian’s Drying Up.

If you’re looking for something to help stave off the effects of the coming months, then look no further.

Frighetened Rabbit - A Frightened Rabbit EP

Frightened Rabbit (facebook/twitter) have been consistently on playlists around Walrus Towers since I first fell in love with Keep Yourself Warm. The Scots have been off touring the US for the past few months and have been selling A Frightened Rabbit EP at their live shows – but it is finally getting a proper release at the end of the month on a very limited 500 print-run. Lucky then that you can pick it up digitally for free right now.

Scottish Winds opens the EP reminds you of why you loved the band from day one, with a bass-heavy guitar wrangling around Scott Hutchison’s accented vocals. Camera Obscura’s Tracyanne Campbell is brought in to add her sullen vocals to site softly above a military marching-drum rhythm and horns on Fuck This Place. Then on The Work, fellow Scot Archie Fisher is brought in for one-two harmonies in the following the traditional folk tradition.

It is an EP of bleak Scottish beauty.

Fixers - Imperial Goddess Of Mercy

Fixers (facebook/twitter), who I have written about a couple of times over the past year, have a new EP coming out in December in Imperial Goddess of Mercy, and here we’ve got the first taste of that. Majesties Ranch keeps the best parts of the Oxford band’s debut – with it starting where Crystals left off – upbeat psychadelic surfpop that hypnotises and soothes.

The EP drops on 5th December with their debut full length to follow in the new year.
