Bands to watch: Fulcher, Smith and Dance

It isn’t often that I write about my friends’ bands on here – and that isn’t that some aren’t pretty good – but more that I feel like I should be a little tougher on them to keep objective – as futile as that may be. But Fulcher, Smith and Dance (MySpace/Last.fm) tick all the right boxes so I can’t keep them to myself.
I wanted fellow TBW staffer Hamish to introduce FSD, being as he’s the bassist and all – but all I could get out of the man was this …

Chapter 24

It’s always good news when the blog/website from which you first hear about a band decide they love them so much that they start a label to distribute that music to the music loving world – and that is exactly what happened with Chapter 24 and The 405/New Pyramid.
We put Chapter 24′s bouncy, raucous Hepcats on our Lost Mixtape vol.2 a couple of months ago after finding the band in the405′s bands to watch in 2010 list and falling head over heels for them. And since then Oliver and Danny from The …

Barn On The Farm Festival 2010

Brand new Gloucester festival Barn On The Farm (www.barnonthefarm.moonfruit.com) launches this week, and its folk-filled lineup is sure to offer the kind of ramshackle hoedown to be remembered and talked about for a long time to come. Meursault – All Creatures Will Make Merry

Ever since Matthew first handed me a copy of Nothing Broke and I was absorbed into Meursault‘s layered, chaotic, distorted folk charms, I knew they were something quite special that go far above the Arcade Fire comparisons which must frustrate them. For some reason though, their release schedule seems to permanently coincide with my exams – so yet again this review is a month late.
All Creatures will make Merry is their second full length and fits in perfectly from where Neil Pennycook’s Edinburgh outfit left off with Pissing on Bonfires/Kissing …

Breakbot – Baby I’m Yours (feat. Irfane)

I have an exam in 12 hours but Breakbot just makes everything OK with “Baby I’m Yours”, which now tops my favourite songs of the summer and comes with a just stunning video.
Mr Ed Banger himself, Busy P says “I’m so proud of this video, not only because it’s our summer hit and because it’s a love song, it just made me cry, really. It took 4 months, it is composed of approx 2000 images watercolor painted one after another (we say Aquarelle in french) It was handmade by the lovely …

Bands to watch: Fiction

Fiction are a four-piece from London that produce bass heavy songs that are thumping and almost hypnotic. Simple and engaging song structures are used to great effect and you can hear influences from Yeasayer to Talking Heads – not a bad caomparison to have.
Once you first hear these boys you can’t help but turn it up and stick it on repeat.
You can here a few more tracks by Fiction on their SoundCloud
Order Curiosity on 7″ here on the new Offset imprint from the team behind Offset Festival, in collaboration with …
