If you wanted to create the sound of hipster 2010 to this point it would be a mixture of lo-fi and 50/60′s surfer revival/doo-wah, but Best Coast is so, so much more. They jump through all those hoops with ease and so will hopefully find the commercial success they deserve, but the song writing talent that Bethany Consentino and Bobb Bruno display on Crazy for You is not just hipster throw-away pop.
The whole album sounds as if the played through the sun haze on a beach – it’s fuzzy, bright …

Only a year after the release of their debut, The Golden Spike, Sky Larkin are back with the release of Kaleide on Wichita. They have kept with John Goodmanson as their producer and the sound of the whole record resembles that of their debut, and yet does show progression – it’s tighter, heavier, and has got more energy that what came before it.

Stealing Sheep are like the delicate and somewhat unexpected love-child of First Aid Kit and Peggy Sue, and they’re absolutely wonderful. Debut EP ‘What If The Lights Went Out’ is the perfect introduction to this all-girl trio.
I first encountered them live when they played London event ‘A Folking Good Night‘ back in May, and I’m delighted to say that this record is just as brilliant as their sensational live performance.

Perfectly Fine Intellectual (video below) is Redtrack‘s fourth single to be released prior to their debut full length Whole Town’s Heart dropping on August 12th on Fandango (a previously singles-only offshoot of the wonderful Fierce Panda).
They produce catchy, danceable pop-punk with tight drums and new-wave riffs and have appeared on Hollyoaks – but there’s no reason to hold that against them. There are …

For those that haven’t been before – Field Day is my favourite London based festival where they a offer a spectacular lineup of great bands and fit it all into a single day in Victoria Park on 31/07. But it is more than just the music as it comes with one big village atmosphere – and yes it often rains but then you just get hay fights…
We are lucky enough to have a pair of tickets to give away, and you can enter this competition in a couple of ways …

When I found out the Young & Lost Club girls, namely Nadia Dahlawi and Sara Jade, were a little younger than myself it really put how much they have done and how influential they are in the London music scene into some perspective for me. And now, celebrating their 50th single and 5 years as a label, they are releasing a double-disc compilation of 35 of their favourites.
Their story is one of musical fairytale of sneaking out of boarding school to catch gigs around London, before starting a beautifully budget …
