Happiest Lion

There is a curious new (to me at least) music website called thesixtyone.com, which describes itself as ‘a music adventure’. It’s worth checking out as an interesting way of discovering new music. And it features lots and lots of unsigned artists, which can only be good! I spent about half an hour trawling through it yesterday and after listening to some truly awful stuff – which is all part of the adventure, I suppose – came across Happiest Lion, the Boston-based project of an enormously talented young fellow called Caleb …

But never fear, the delightful Jamila from Fucking Dance is hosting one this year in the guise of Hi, Honey on Thursday at Pav Tav.
You’ve got live sets from MASKS, FOE, The Caulfield Beats and a DJ set from Is Tropical …

The days have got longer, and the sun is starting to glisten through the trees making this perfect timing for the latest instalment of Summer days through the folkish haze (previously vols 1 and 2). Johnny Flynn announces new album and a free download

Everyone’s favourite poster-boy for nu-folk is back and better than ever with the announcement of his new album ‘Been Listening’, released through Transgressive Records on June 7th (which on another note, is coincidentally the date I’m hosting The Miserable Rich at Norwich Puppet Theatre, do come to that if you’re Norfolk-based and about).
The new album consists of 11 tracks, and if you’ve seen Johnny live or had a listen to any of his homemade demos on MySpace over the past year, you’ll know a few of them already. Excitingly, ‘The …
