Everybody’s favourite mischevious sea dweller is doing something extra special to celebrate the Yuletide season this month, with the launch of his debut single ‘A Call To Arms For Hippies’, released through Kind Canyon Records on Monday.

The track, which features contributions from a myriad of notable London nu-folk residents, is being released as a charity single in aid of MAP – Medical Aid for Palestinians.

You might remember that we featured Olly back here and here when his amusing antics first caught our eye. With the release of this debut single in aid of a brilliant cause and production credits which include Emmy The Great and Stars Of Sunday League, it looks like Olly might well be on the rise in 2010…

To celebrate the single’s release, Olly is throwing a launch party on next Monday 14th December (release day!) over at the Cross Kings in King’s Cross, and the rather fantastic looking show will feature, almong others, Tristram, Stars Of Sunday League and Lulu & The Lampshades.

If you fancy it, which you really ought to, there’s a Facebook event over here. It’s only £5 entry for all the great bands, and this money goes straight to the MAP charity.

Grab your copy of the single from iTunes on Monday, or bypass iTune’s cut and pre-order it over at www.eardepartment.com. Not sold yet? Check out the music video over here then.

Crystal Fighters - I Love LondonWe’ve made no secret of our love for Crystal Fighters and their basque-influenced electro delights here at Walrus Towers, but they have outdone themselves with their latest “I Love London”. Kitsune (MySpace) decided to put this on their Kitsune Maison 8 compilation (which incidentally I think is their best in a little while), but have now released it as a single and wow what a single it is – and yes I was unbelievably upset I couldn’t go to the launch party (stupid degree pfft!).

This was released a week or two ago now, but oh my haven’t we got something special for you right here…The original has the Basque rhythms driving the thing on what I’m pretty sure is a wood block. You then throw in some rough and ready growling synths and heavily accented vocals, and yeah you’ve got something you can’t help but get fired up with.

Then with this being a Kitsune release, it would also be remixed in every direction possible with the official release having seven, yes seven, remixes on it. A personal highlight for me is the In Flagranti dub which adds some machine gun drum fills, what could be a 70s guitar riff but some how comes out of that bag of oddities sounding alike a driving electro belter direct for the dancefloor. There’s some other fantastic takes released on the EP as well, so if you want more head over and buy it.
