Something from Montreal and something for your holidays

I know I’ve been neglecting this blog a bit recently but I have been busy with the rest of my exams and finally a few design projects. However, I haven’t relented from finding new and great music.

I get quite a lot of correspondence each day from bands and promoters, but although I do listen to them all, I only post bands that I really quite like - so here is a band from Montreal that send me some tracks to have a listen to. They are called Under Electric Light (MySpace and website) and make simple synthetic tracks which just seem to stick in my head. So here’s a track from their latest EP which you can buy through Paypal on their MySpace page:

Under Electric Light - Sitting Here

I’m actually off on holiday tomorrow to Zakynthos tomorrow on holiday with some friends from uni (just packing and making playlists at the moment) and as always when I go somewhere hot for some parties - certain songs come to mind. I hadn’t heard of The Cat Empire (MySpace) when I was travelling round Australia on the gap year trail, but was lucky enough to catch a free gig of theirs when I was being a wannabe hippy staying in Byron Bay for a few weeks and have yet to find a better atmosphere since. They play a kind of fusion between jazz, hiphop, raggae, rock and pretty much anything else besides, but are just perfect for a hot summers day by the sea, pool. Here’s my favourite track off their debut album that I picked up while I was out there.

The Cat Empire - Days Like These

We also have a rather fun drinking game to The Wine Song (you have to do the actions and bolt while they sing drink, drink, drink, dr,drink, drink drink), that makes it perfect just before going on holiday.

The Cat Empire - The Wine Song

That’s it from me for the next couple of weeks - you’ll have to rely on Hamish ;-)
